About

Dr Gwee Kok Ann, MBBS, MMed, MRCP, FAMS (Gastroenterology), PhD (Sheffield), is founding partner of The Gastroenterology Group. He obtained his medical degree from National University of Singapore in 1985, completed his gastroenterology training at National University Hospital, Singapore, undertook further training in UK and Canada, and was awarded a PhD from University of Sheffield for his thesis on Post-Infection Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

He is a leading authority on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and constipation, being the lead author of position papers on IBS and constipation, and on the use of probiotics for digestive disorders. He was a member of the Rome Committee that publishes international guidelines for functional digestive disorders, past president of the IBS Support Group (a patient self-help group), the ANMA (an Asian expert panel organisation dedicated to the science and practice of functional digestive disorders), and recipient of the Rome Foundation Research Award 2014.

Dr Gwee is also Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Professor Gwee has international publications on the IBS, constipation, dyspepsia, gastritis, Helicobacter pylori infection, gluten sensitivity, probiotics, melatonin and sleep disturbance and GERD. In addition to the management of stomach, liver and bowel disorders, Dr Gwee provides expertise in the management of indigestion, gas related complaints, bowel habit training and dietary management of food intolerance, refractory GERD and H pylori infection, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. His specific hepatology interests are the management of fatty liver and hepatitis E.
