About

Dr Ho is a gastroenterologist who provides specialised care in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis).

In addition to inflammatory bowel disease, Dr Ho treats other digestive conditions such as reflux and heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, piles, bloating, abdominal pain and liver diseases like hepatitis B and fatty liver. He is also a strong advocator for colorectal cancer screening. He is an experienced endoscopist and performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures like gastroscopy, colonoscopy, polyp removal and insertion of feeding tubes and devices like percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. He also performs specialised procedures like enteroscopy for small intestine examination and chromoendoscopy (using special dyes to detect early cancer). With his experience in the nutrition support service, he manages patients on parenteral (intravenous) nutrition and those with malnutrition.

Prior to private practise, Dr Ho practised gastroenterology at Khoo Teck Puat hospital (KTPH). He was recruited by KTPH to establish the IBD service, where he was clinical lead. He established the IBD subspecialist clinic and day infusion clinic for patients on biologic therapies at KTPH. He sees pediatrics-adult transition IBD patients. Dr Ho was integral in building a multi-disciplinary IBD team, providing seamless and holistic care for IBD patients. He was a visiting IBD consultant at National University Hospital (NUH) and teaches IBD to fellow gastroenterologists, senior residents, family physician residents and medical students. In addition, he is involved in clinical nutrition and runs the nutrition support service. He sits on nutrition support workgroups and speaks at nutrition forums. He has written review articles on the role of diet in IBD and believes in the importance of nutrition in digestive health.

Dr Ho obtained his undergraduate degree in pharmacology at the University College London. He spent a fellowship year at Pfizer UK and was involved in the development of drug therapies. Upon graduation from Duke-NUS Medical School, he underwent internal medicine training at SingHealth and attained his membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Master of Medicine in internal medicine. He completed the United States medical licensing examinations and obtained certification by the United States educational commission for foreign medical graduates. He underwent gastroenterology specialist training at NUH and was accredited a specialist by the specialist accreditation board.

Dr Ho has authored several research papers and continues to be a reviewer for several journals. He has contributed articles on gastroenterology to ChannelNewsAsia, Straits Times and the local Yishun Health and National Healthcare Group (NHG) lifestyle magazines.

As part of the Chapters of Gastroenterology Academy of Medicine Singapore, he contributed to professional guidelines on endoscopy and liver diseases during the COVID pandemic.

Outside of medicine, with an interest to service the public, he is an executive committee member of his neighbourhood residents grassroot committee.
