About
Dr James Siow is an Orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Alvernia Hospital, Singapore. He obtained his bachelor’s degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.
After completing his Orthopaedic training locally, he underwent a full year fellowship training in Foot & Ankle surgery at the world renowned Inselspital, Bern, Switzerland. It is a tertiary referral centre that treats patients with complex conditions from all over Switzerland and Europe.
He is a very strong proponent of using minimally invasive techniques or keyhole techniques whenever possible to treat his patients. He treats a wide range of conditions, from bunions, bunionettes, hammer toes and other foot deformities, sports injuries (such as cartilage, tendon and ligament injuries), degenerative conditions (of joints and tendons), Achilles tendon injuries and fractures. Whenever required, he is also highly skilled and meticulous in performing complex and revision operations of the foot and ankle via open surgery using the least invasive approach.
After completing his fellowship training, he set up and headed the foot and ankle service in Woodlands Hospital. In addition, he was also the lead for the Woodlands Hospital Diabetic Foot Programme from 2023 to 2025 which played an instrumental role in reducing major amputation rates in patients with diabetic foot infections.
He was one of the first surgeons to advocate for and utilise the fourth generation minimally invasive bunion surgery technique and nanoscopy of the foot and ankle in the National Healthcare Group of hospitals. The abovementioned initiatives resulted in improved patient care and outcomes such as significant reduction of post-operative pain and improved joint mobility after surgery.
He still an active visiting consultant to Woodlands hospital and continues to treat patients, hospital staff and colleagues.
