About

Dr Loo Wee Lim is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Spine Surgery. He graduated from the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Medicine in 2002. During the course of his specialty training, he obtained his membership into the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and his Masters of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery). Dr Loo completed his postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013 and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ortho). He is also registered with the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board.

Dr Loo was awarded the prestigious Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship by the Ministry of Health and underwent a further twelve months of specialty training in spine surgery at the world renowned Charité – Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany. He was subsequently admitted as a fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore in 2016.

Dr Loo is extremely comfortable in all aspects of spinal surgery and performs decompression, instrumented fusion and disc replacement (non-fusion) surgery to treat traumatic and degenerative conditions afflicting the spine. In particular, he has a special interest in minimally invasive spine surgery and computer navigation-aided spinal surgery. His clinical interests include key-hole and endoscopic spine surgeries, which he believes allow fewer complications and a quicker recovery for his patients. In addition to spinal surgery, Dr Loo is skilled in both surgical and conservative treatment of other non-spinal orthopaedic conditions, including trauma and arthritic conditions affecting the limbs.

Prior to joining Synergy Orthopaedic Group, Dr Loo was a Senior Consultant with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Changi General Hospital (CGH) and the CGH-National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) Integrated Spine Centre. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor with Duke-NUS Medical School, and served as Assistant Program Director of Singhealth Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme. In addition to his clinical duties, he remains actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. Dr Loo has won numerous awards in recognition for his contribution to clinical work and teaching, including the CGH Outstanding Educator Award and OneCGHCares award for outstanding patient care.

Besides regularly organizing spine surgery conferences and cadaveric dissection courses, Dr Loo is also regularly invited to teach local and regional surgeons at both orthopaedic and spine surgery courses. He has published and presented his research at several international and local conferences and has written and edited papers for multiple peer review international journals.
