Background
A/Prof Luke Tan is a pleasant and effable doctor who enjoys his practice in the Specialty of Ear Nose Throat – Head and Neck Cancer Surgery, and has a particular passion for Thyroid Surgery. A/Prof Tan attained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore in 1988. After completing his basic surgery training in Singapore at the Singapore General Hospital & National University Hospital, he took unpaid leave and went overseas for training.
A/Prof Tan went to the UK in 1994-1996, where he completed his ENT Specialist residency in Otolaryngology in the United Kingdom and attained entry into the prestigious Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of ENGLAND (FRCS(England)), which is only possible for overseas doctors who have worked in the UK. During this same period, he spent his evenings and weekends on cancer research (P53 and angiogenesis in Laryngeal Cancer), for which he was awarded the Master of Medical Science at the University of Dundee.
Upon completion of his ENT specialty training in UK, he was awarded a Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery in Galveston, Texas. This was a 2-year intensive training program that was accredited by the American Joint Council of Head and Neck Surgeons.
