About

Dr Ng is a specialistcolorectal surgeon in private practice. He was formerly Senior Consultant colorectal surgeon at Singapore General Hospital and consultant colorectal surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is well established in the local and international fraternity of colorectal surgeons and served as Secretary (2017-2019) and then President (2019-2021) of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons Singapore. The Society, being the only professional body in Singapore representing colorectal surgeons and furthering the practice of specialty colorectal surgery.

His forte is in advanced minimally invasive (keyhole) colorectal procedures including robotic surgery, colonic stenting andtransanal (per anal incisionless)colorectal surgery.

He has achieved particular renown as a robotic surgeon, especially in performing difficult sphincter preservation. Today he is well sought after as a trainer and educator in robotic surgery, delivering regular lectures locally and internationally as well as performing hands-on proctoring for other surgeons in the technique. He was the first Singaporean colorectal surgeon to have performed live surgery demonstration of his robotic technique at an international surgical conference (ISLCRS 2015 meeting Nov 2015).

Dr Ng has also performed pioneering work with colonic stenting and has the largest single practitioner case series in Singapore. With the use of stents for large bowel obstruction, laparoscopic (keyhole) management of advanced colorectal cancer becomes routinely possible.

He has particular interest in developing advanced techniques in colorectal cancer surgery. He is a pioneer in Singapore of laparoscopic “D3 lymphadenectomy” and “complete mesocolic excision” (a new keyhole technique for colorectal cancer surgery initially developed in Japan and Korea) to ensure maximum cancer clearance and minimise cancer recurrences.

Dr Ng’s other clinical interest is in laparoscopic hernia repair, having also achieved international renown with regular invitations to lecture and demonstrate. He has also performed numerous live demonstration (to other surgeons) of his hernia repair technique locally and internationally at workshops and conferences.
