Dr Shridhar Iyer is a distinguished general surgeon with subspecialty expertise in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery, liver transplantation, organ transplantation, surgical oncology, and general surgery. He is proficient in minimally invasive, robotic, and general HPB surgeries, and currently practices at Mount Alvernia Hospital. His illustrious career spans over 20 years, marked by innovation, leadership, and a commitment to advancing surgical care.

  • Performed over 5,000 major surgeries
  • Performed and assisted trained surgeons in more than 500 liver transplantation cases
  • Led a liver transplant in one of the earliest combined liver and kidney transplantation in Singapore

He previously held key academic and clinical leadership roles as Group Head of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the National University Health System (NUHS) and Co-Director of the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation (NUCOT) and Co-Director of Singapore’s National Liver Transplant Programme. Dr Iyer’s interests lie in HPB diseases and living donor liver transplantation, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100 invited international presentations. He is the founding member and past President of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (Singapore) and currently serves as President of the Society of Transplantation (Singapore). His contributions to complex Living donor Liver transplant (LDLT), donor safety, and national transplant governance have helped mid-volume centres achieve outcomes on par with high-volume international benchmarks through robust quality assurance frameworks.

A dedicated surgical educator, Dr Iyer served as Programme Director for NUH’s General Surgery Residency from 2010 to 2018, leading Singapore’s first ACGME-I accredited residency outside the United States. He developed and led surgical skills training curricula, receiving postgraduate teaching awards for his efforts. He has spearheaded several quality improvement initiatives in hospital systems, including reduced length of stay and discharge optimization—recognized with institutional merit awards.
