Background

Dr Tang’s cardiology training started in National Heart Centre Singapore in 2004. He subsequently further his training in the field of cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease) and cardiac MRI at The Heart Hospital, University College London Hospitals, UK in 2010.

After returning from his training, Dr Tang started a dedicated cardiomyopathy clinic at National Heart Centre in 2011. This clinic is currently a national tertiary referral center for cardiomyopathies in Singapore.

Dr Tang is now a recognized expert in the field of cardiomyopathy. His expertise in echocardiography and cardiac MRI further enhances his work in this field. The cardiomyopathies that he is treating include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. He was the course director of Singapore first cardiomyopathy conference, which was successfully held in 2021. He is also a member of SAF Cardiology Specialist Advisory Board.

As regular physical training would cause adaptational changes in the heart that may resemble cardiomyopathy, his clinical work also regularly involves recognizing and differentiating exercise-induced cardiac remodeling (athlete heart) from the pathological cardiomyopathies.

Dr Tang is also one of the leading experts in treating patient with cardiac amyloidosis, a disease that has now gained more attention with the availability of a specific therapeutic agent.

Despite his advanced expertise, Dr Tang loves to practise general cardiology and firmly believes in primary prevention. Living a healthy lifestyle has always been his key message for patients. Leading by example, he himself is an avid runner and does resistance training regularly.
