About

Dr Thor Timothy Anuntapon Chutatape is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist who specialises in Pain Medicine. He was the previous Director of Acute Pain Services in Singapore General Hospital, and Visiting Consultant at Sengkang General Hospital, KK Women and Children’s Hospital, National Dental Centre, National Cancer Centre, National Heart Centre, and Singapore National Eye Centre. Dr Thor was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme Award by the Ministry of Health of Singapore to specialise in Cancer and Chronic Pain at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia. There he was trained in minimally invasive interventional pain techniques including spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal pump placement, and radiofrequency neuromodulation and ablation techniques, providing alternatives to open surgery which may be more risky for some patients.

Dr Thor received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore, followed by his Masters of Medicine (Anaesthesiology) before receiving his Specialist Board Accreditation. He completed his Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA) after passing examinations in Melbourne. He subsequently entered into the Fellowship of the Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP, USA) with the World Institute of Pain based in North Carolina. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS) and its Pain Chapter.

Dr Thor previously lectured and mentored doctors in SingHealth cluster, and students from Yong Loo Lin and Duke-NUS medical schools, while also being involved in pain research. He has also shared his insights on television and newspapers, and runs masterclasses and seminars for the public. He continues to help in pain workshops and gives talks to general practitioners in forums. Dr Thor is passionate about helping everyone understand about overcoming pain and improving their quality of life. He especially believes in treating at-risk patients before major surgery and helping them manage their pain post-operation to minimise the risk of developing chronic post- surgical pain. He has a special interest in ultrasound-guided regenerative techniques to treat neck, back, joint pains and ligament injuries.
