To offer you a wonderful and memorable experience during the birth of your baby, our delivery suites are designed with your comfort and convenience in mind. The 15 delivery suite rooms are all single bedded, each well-equipped with clinical facilities and decorated in soothing shades.
On average, we deliver about 5,000 babies in a year. To ensure the safe delivery of your baby and to look after you well, our midwifery team at the delivery suites keeps up to date with knowledge and skills through continuing education combined with in-house training in labour and birthing process.
In addition, the operating theatres, neonatal intensive care and high dependency units are all located within close proximity on the same level of the building. This will facilitate the delivery of multi-disciplinary care for you and your baby during high-risk pregnancies.
Your partner is encouraged to always stay with you in the delivery suite, to provide the emotional support crucially needed just before your baby arrives.
Each room is equipped with a foetal monitoring and baby resuscitation system to closely detect foetal movement and identify babies that require immediate delivery. The safety of you and your baby is of utmost importance to us; you and your partner can therefore rest assured that your baby as well as your own wellbeing are always monitored.
With the help of our anaesthetic specialists, we also offer epidural service if you require pain relief during labour. Our caring and efficient midwives can provide you with one-to-one support, making the birthing experience more pleasant and hopefully reducing the need for pain relief.
If your baby is well and do not require special medical attention, he/she can stay with you at the nurseries located at the St Michael, Our Lady and St Raphael wards. Our specially trained nurses will care for your baby and a team of doctors will monitor your baby’s health each day.
“Rooming-in” helps you and your partner to bond with your newborn and learn baby’s habits, likes and dislikes. More importantly, it provides a good opportunity for parents to learn how to care for your baby, so that you can tap on the vast experience of our nurses while still in our care here.
The Nursery is most suited for babies who need regular monitoring by the medical team, and babies whose mothers may not be able to care for them (e.g. immediately after a caesarean section).
Amenities
A neonate is a newborn in his/her first 28 days of life. They can be born full term or prematurely (before 37 weeks of gestation).
Neonatal care is a specialised field with trained personnel managing these newborns.
The neonatal intensive care unit attends to high-risk deliveries, resuscitation of the sick newborn, neonatal intensive care, well-baby nursery care and follow-up. Together with doctors, our dedicated team of nurses provide continuous monitoring, investigations and specialised medical and nursing care for these newborns. We are also able to provide pre- and post-operative care for neonates requiring surgery.
DID YOU KNOW?
Infants in the NICU are frequently exposed to sounds above recommended standards. Such sounds can create excessive auditory stimulation resulting in sleep disturbance and negative physiological responses, with changes in heart rate, oxygenation levels and respiratory rates.
Hence, we have a sound level meter within our NICU to ensure a peaceful environment for your newborn.
