Pregnancy2nd Trimester (13-24 weeks)

My bump is getting bigger. How can I better prepare myself?

• Arrange a regular ultrascan schedule
  Arrange with your doctor for regular ultrascan to monitor the physical development of your baby.
• Go for hospital tour
  Familiarise yourself with our services and facilities prior to your delivery by joining our maternity tour here.
• Attend Childbirth Education Class
  At about week 20, prepare yourself and your partner for the experiences and challenges ahead by attending our Childbirth Education Class here.
• Shop for baby products
  Start shopping for your baby products and the necessities to prepare for your baby room.

Pregnancy3rd Trimester (25-38 weeks)

Few more weeks to my delivery, what should I expect?

• Book confinement nanny service and food
  Consider your confinement nanny service and food. Remember to book them early.
• Train your caregiver or helper
  Whether it is your parents or a caregiver, get connected with them and ensure that they are equipped and prepared to help you care for your baby.
• Consider your pain relief options during delivery
  Consult with your doctor on the various pain management options. Enrol in our parentcraft childbirth education to learn about how to cope with your labour here.

Pregnancy3rd Trimester (25-38 weeks)

The delivery time is nearing. What should I prepare before going to the hospital?

• Pre-register online to ensure a hassle-free admission process
  Pre-register your stay with us here to ensure a smooth and hassle-free admission.
• Arrange transport arrangements to the hospital
  Driving yourself for delivery may sound cool but it is definitely not recommended. Arrange your husband, a driver or other transport arrangements to ensure smooth transportation to the hospital.
• Install a baby’s car seat
  Install a baby’s car seat to ensure that you and your baby can have a safe journey back after delivery. Get one at our pharmacy here.
• Pack your hospital admission bag 2-4 weeks before the estimated delivery date
  Last minute packing is never a good idea. Please your admission bag at least 2-4 weeks before your estimated delivery date.

1. Pyjamas or night dresses with front opening for ease of breastfeeding (for mum)
2. Cardigan (for mum)
3. Full set of clothes and wrap to go home (for baby)
4. 2 pairs of mittens (for baby)
5. Personal toiletries
6. Non-slip bedroom slippers
7. Nursing bras without underwire support
8. Socks to be worn in Delivery Suite
9. Casual wear upon discharge
10. Polythene bags (for your soiled clothes)
11. Sanitary pads (optional)
12. Breastfeeding nursing pads (optional)

Post BirthSuccessful Delivery

The delivery is successful. Parenthood, here I come!

• Consult lactation consultant on breastfeeding and baby care
  Our lactation consultant will visit you at the ward to offer advice and guidance on general newborn care and breastfeeding. For more information, check out Alvernia Parentcraft Centre here.
• Get help from parentcraft homecare services
  After discharge, please contact Parentcraft Centre if you need any advice, or to book appointment for outpatient/homecare services.
• Consider weight management and exercise options
  Consider your options for weight management and exercise after childbirth. Contact our nutritionist for assistance here.
• Pick up essential mother and baby products at pharmacy
  Before leaving the hospital, remember to pick up essential mother and baby products at our Alvernia pharmacy.

Birth Registration

From 29 May 2022, all birth registration services over the counter have ceased operations.

All parents, regardless of their immigration or marital status (with or without Singpass), must register the birth of their child via the LifeSG app within 42 days.

Go for baby blessing

We would love to conduct baby blessing for your little ones at our chapel. It is available for every newborn regardless of race, nationality or religion. Interested couples to contact our ward staff to arrange a suitable time.

Baby Bonus Application Service

You may apply for this via the LifeSG app as well. Otherwise, you can apply online at https://www.babybonus.msf.gov.sg using your Singpass account. Please make sure that you have the following documents ready to complete application:

• Bank Account Holder’s account details to receive the cash gift
• Personal particulars of the Bank Account Holder and CDA Trustee if they are a third party (i.e. not the child’s parent)
• Adoption order and Schedule (if your child is adopted)

Birth Registration

How do I care for my bundle of joy?

• Get vaccination from a paediatrician
  There are various vaccination that is recommended for your baby. Upon birth, ensure that your paediatrician administer BCG and Hepatitis B first dosage vaccination for your baby. Check out the full list of recommended immunisation here.
• Consider additional baby screening
  For full screening of your baby’s health, consider additional screening such as Newborn hearing, Bilirubin (test for jaundice) and Metabolic Screening Tests. Interested couples to contact our ward nurses to arrange these tests.
• Bring your baby for a massage
  Bring your baby for a massage or even get yourself trained in baby massage at our Alvernia Parentcraft Centre here.
• Attend weaning class
  When and how to help your baby transit from milk to solids? Join our weaning class here to equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to help your baby in this transition.
