Mount Alvernia Hospital (MAH), a not-for-profit general tertiary care hospital, officially opens its second outreach medical clinic – Mount Alvernia Outreach Medical Clinic (MAOMC) at Agape Village. In addition to providing primary care services, the clinic also provides subsidised dental services to the disadvantaged at Mount Alvernia Outreach Dental Clinic (MAODC). The dental services is a result of a collaborative effort with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Fully funded by Mount Alvernia Hospital, this initiative grows out of a passion to help the vulnerable, needy and under-served who have limited or no access to primary healthcare services.
Mr Lee Suen Ming, Chief Executive Officer of Mount Alvernia Hospital said, “We are privileged to be able to serve the vulnerable, needy and underserved. By filling a healthcare gap and taking care of their basic health needs, the beneficiaries can have a peace of mind to focus on overcoming their personal struggles and rebuilding their lives for a better future.”
“It is also very satisfying to see our outreach services expanded to include a dental clinic to provide a wider range of services for the less fortunate. We hope the medical and dental clinic services will complement the various community facilities and services already available at the Agape Village to better reach out, engage and serve the community” he added.
The clinics will be working in partnership with organisations like the National Council of Social Service, Community Chest and SCORE, and other voluntary welfare organisations such as Family Service Centres, Senior Activity Centres and Caritas Singapore Member Organisations, to reach out and engage with their beneficiaries. Unlike other free public clinics, MAOMC and MAODC adopt a more targeted approach to reach out to people who have fallen through the safety net and who are most in need.
MAOMC will provide general practitioner consultation and medication for the management of common colds and flu, fever, diarrhoea and constipation, joint aches and pains, headache and giddiness and other acute illnesses. MAODC is equipped with full dental facilities including restorative instruments and dental hand pieces.
Members of MAOMC & MAODC will only pay a nominal fee of $5 for all outpatient medical services and $10 for dental treatments at the clinics. To become a member, applications can be submitted through the partner VWO organisations that will assess applicant’s financial status before making a referral for membership.
The first outreach medical clinic was set up at Enabling Village, Redhill last year in October.
